THE BUNKER

The Bunker, located at No.3 Zhang Zizhong Road, Beijing, was originally the underground facility built by General Yasuji Okamura, commander-in-chief of the Japanese occupying force in Northern China during the Second Sino-Japanese War. The architectural compound that The Bunker belongs to has witnessed the changes in historical periods of modern China: Constructed in 1906, this architectural compound once housed the offices of the Qing Government’s Navy and Army until it became the Duan Qirui’s administrative office of the Nationalist government in 1924; In 1926, the March 18 Massacre occurred here; After the founding of the government of CPC in 1949, it has been used by People's University of China. Since 2017, as part of the historic site, The Bunker opens as an exhibition space for experimental art.
